The Sacred Wheel ~ Ritual Form

What follows is the "standard" ritual form for the Tradition...

  • The Spiral Inwards
The ancient symbol of the Spiral is traced with our footsteps as we approach the place of ritual.

  • The Blessing of the Way - Seeking Taranis of the Wheel
We ask that Taranis, the great thunderer and keeper of the wheel, lend blessings to our rite and guide us onwards in our passage from thisworld to sacred place and time.

  • The blessing of the Land, Sea and Sky
The three sacred realms are blessed and appropriate offerings are made.

  • The offering to the place
Since ritual is usually celebrated in a natural setting, an appropriate offering to the spirits of the place is made.

  • The acknowledgment of the Source
A call to the Source Of All Things, the great creative force from which all things in this world come, is pronounced. We understand that as we speak, move and even breathe we are at one with the divine force that is embodied in all things.

  • flowing from the source

  • The offering to Awen
Awen is the source of inspiration; the otherwordly fire that kindles the spark of the life within us. We give forth an appropriate offering so as to give thanks and to ensure the continued enrichment of our spiritual being.

  • The call to the divine face(s) of the Source
The Source Of All Things has many faces, yet is faceless. the Gods that dwell in Tree, Well, Fire, etc. are the embodiments of the universal force and we acknowlege and give forth our blessings to those aspects.

  • The ritual core
The purpose of the ritual varies depending on seasonal observance and personal need.
The core (or purpose) of the rite is expressed and "enacted" here.

  • Drawing of Omens
After the main ritual core has been observed and completed, divination is performed so as to receive guidance and insight from the otherworld.

  • Meditation/Reflection
A quiet moment is observed to reflect on the preceding ritual.

  • The offering of Thanks
An appropriate offering and/or sacrifice is made in gratitude to the source for the guidance, wisdom, inspiration, etc. received during the ritual.

  • Blessing of the Way - Thanking Taranis of the Wheel
Our gratitude and blessings are expressed once more to Taranis for the guidance, protection and blessings received during the sacred rite.

  • The Spiral outwards
Our footsteps once more trace the ancient Spiral, flowing outwards form the sacred time and space.
